Washington, D.C. – On Friday the Shreveport Job Corps Center, and Job Corps centers across the country were notified that they must close, under the direction of President Trump’s Department of Labor. There is absolutely no justifiable reason for this abrupt closure, which came without congressional approval.

Late last night, House Republicans were able to advance President Trump’s so called “big beautiful budget bill” by a one vote margin after close to 22 hours of continuous testifying by Democrats against the bill.

There is nothing beautiful about a bill that could strip vital healthcare and food assistance from millions of Americans, in addition to taking away critical federal funding from states like Louisiana.

Carter, Sr. (D-LA), Congressman Cleo Fields (D-LA), Congresswoman Julia Letlow (R-LA), and Congressman Mike Ezell (R-MS) have introduced the bipartisan National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Authorization Extension Act which will extend the federal authorization for the NFIP. The bill would extend the program through December 31, 2026, significantly longer than the typical short-term extensions passed by Congress.
