CONGRESSMAN CLEO FIELDS’ STATEMENT ON THE RESIGNATION OF SECRETARY KRISTI NOEM
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This afternoon, Congressman Fields released the following statement on the resignation of Department of Homeland Security’s Secretary Kristi Noem, and the nomination of her successor, Senator Markwayne Mullin.
“Today's announcement that Secretary Kristi Noem will be stepping down as Secretary of Homeland Security is long overdue. As I’ve said time and time again, she was not qualified to lead one of the most critical agencies in our federal government, and her tenure made it clear that she was not the right person for this role.
My hope is that her successor, Senator Markwayne Mullin, will lead the Department of Homeland Security with greater transparency, accountability, and competence upon his confirmation. There is far too much at stake for anything less than exemplary leadership.
It is now the Senate's responsibility to ensure that Senator Mullin undergoes a full and rigorous vetting process. The American people deserve nothing less.”
