Congressman Fields Celebrates Legal Win for American Consumers in Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Case Against the Trump Administration

March 31, 2025

Washington, DC –Today, Congressman Fields celebrates a major win for American consumers as a federal judge ruled to temporarily block President Trump’s attempt to dismantle the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Congressman Fields, along with more than 200 of his colleagues, proudly defended the rights of consumers by filing an amicus brief defending the CFPB and standing against executive overreach by the Trump administration.

The CFPB was created through the bipartisan Dodd Frank Act to protect Americans from predatory actors and financial fraud in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. Since its creation, the CFPB has returned over $21 billion in relief to consumers through monetary compensation, loan principal reductions, canceled debts, and other measures.

“This ruling by the court reaffirms that we live in a country with checks and balances. The President cannot unilaterally make these kinds of decisions. We will continue to stand up to this Administration while standing up for the values and interests of the American people,” said Congressman Fields.

Congressman Fields currently sits on the House Financial Services Committee as well as the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations which both have direct jurisdiction over the CFPB.
